A Story of Being Too Intense About Art

A quick anecdote about this painting:

It was early into my sophomore year of college and I was hunched over the desk under my bunk bed  having a hard time making the right shoulder look realistic. Despite my frustration, I kept pushing through — classic mistake. Then my friend was gonna come over to have dinner and ended up cancelling saying I was in an “artistic flow”. Lies! Really, I was in an artistic competitiveness with myself.

In the end, I didn’t finish the painting that night and never had the drive to go back and smooth over the edges.

Now this painting speaks to me as a lesson. Take your time and have fun! When I’m feeling frustrated I know I need to take a step back and be around those that make me feel better ❤
